Amit Deshpande is a seasoned board-level legal strategist with over 24 years of experience in corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, restructuring, regulatory strategy, and enterprise risk management.
He currently leads the M&A and Capital Markets Practice at LegaLogic, advising promoters, boards, and investors on complex domestic and cross-border transactions. Under his leadership, the practice has grown into a 30+ member team delivering end-to-end strategic counsel across inbound and outbound structuring, private equity and venture capital investments, liquidity events, NCLT/RD mergers and demergers, ESOP and FEMA advisory, founders’ arrangements, and SEBI-regulated matters.
Prior to private practice, Amit served for nearly 15 years as General Counsel & Company Secretary at Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL), a Vedanta Group company. As a key member of the leadership team, he played a central role in shaping the company’s strategic transformation through mergers, demergers, acquisitions, and capital-raising initiatives. He was instrumental in strengthening governance architecture, enhancing board processes, managing enterprise risk, and navigating complex regulatory and litigation landscapes. His tenure reflects a rare blend of legal acumen, commercial insight, and boardroom judgment. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles with Tata Auto Comp Limited (TACO), Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (KOEL), and Vishay Components (India) Pvt. Ltd., building a strong foundation in corporate and industrial governance.
Amit is a Commerce graduate from Symbiosis and a law graduate from ILS Law College, Pune. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ACS) and a Certified Corporate Director recognized by the Institute of Directors (IOD). He has been featured in the Legal500 Top 100 GC Powerlist (2018, 2022, 2023) and the BW Legal World Top 100+ GC List (2023).
